A Greek Story from the Aegean Sea!

kini

When you holiday on a Greek island, you most likely enjoy having lunch or dinner in a picturesque seaside tavern. Here below a story that we found in a nice taverna on the island of Syros.

On the island of Syros, Omilo students love to try out various taverns after their Greek lessons in the morning. While practicing their Greek and sharing various dishes, they also take in the views of the sparkling blue sea, the sandy beach, the glorious sunsets or, at night, the sight of the moon rising and its reflection on the water.

In the village of Azolimnos, where Omilo’s Greek classes take place, you can enjoy beautiful sunrises. For dramatic sunsets, you can go to the village of Kini, on the western side of the island. When you are in Kini, of course, you have the opportunity to explore other seaside taverns. One of them is called “Allou Giallou” (www.allouyialousyros.gr ). There, in their menu, we found this lovely little story.

Athina will read this story for you so that now you can listen to the text while reading along. 😊

Here below you will find the Greek text as well as the English translation.

Translation:
Once upon a time, there was a fish that was different from the others. He spoke four languages, and, in the evenings, he liked sitting on his favorite reef, reading poetry.”There is life beyond the seabed,” he used to say. But no one understood him. One day, during the summer of 2007, he took his things and left his home, and since then, nobody has seen him. Some say that he was eaten by a shark; others say that he opened a bar in the Bermuda triangle, that he married a sea bream in Hawaii, or that he actually discovered life beyond the seabed and opened a tavern … in Kini …
…where we are at this very moment, enjoying a lovely meal.
